Day 362

Tuesday 27th December 2016

There is one person who has really helped me this year and that is Jenny my nutritionist.

I met her in January after Matt did  research into finding a nutritionist. She had really good ratings and she was only half an hour away from my house.

The first time I met her she said she could help me. She said I could do a healthy eating plan called a metabolic balance. It consisted of a blood test which showed what was happening on the inside.

She told me about the 4 phases I would go through when it came to food options. She said that she lives on phase 3 all the time.

I have to say when she told me what I had to do I didn’t think there was a chance I would do it. It seemed far too hard and I definitely didn’t think I could live on it long term. In short I didn’t really believe her.

It started by me going to see her every week for 6 months and then fortnightly for the last 6 months of this year.

Jenny is a person I felt I could tell anything too. She put me at ease from the very beginning. She was a person I liked straight away and because I saw her so often it wasn’t long before we became friends.

Visiting her every week usually consisted of a weigh in, sometimes she took measurements and she also helped to improve my skin. Because she believes eating healthier is sorting things from the inside out she also thinks we need to do the same from the outside in.

We also talked a lot, usually about how I was getting on and she gave me so much nutrition advice. I have learnt so much from her. I never really understood before what food did to your body and how your body reacts to it until this year.

However I think all I gave her is a pain in the foot. Because it seemed like every week I would go and break a glass. It wasn’t long until a bit ended up in her foot!

The beginning half of the year was really hard but I have to say it is the best thing I have ever done and definitely the most rewarding.

She told me in January that it would be the last diet I would ever go on. I didn’t really believe that either.

However she is right. You may be thinking that seeing a nutritionist isn’t exactly cheap – well you would be right! But I have been to many places to lose weight before where I pay a certain amount every week and I have done that for years. I think if I added it all up Jenny would be cheaper in the long run and it all worked.

With Jenny I also get a personal service and she is at the other end of the phone when I need her. There was one time on day 4 of the detox when she had an hysterical woman on the other end of the phone. I was ready to quit but she encouraged me to carry on and said that tomorrow would be better. She was right.

She has been right with everything she has told me and I have done exactly what she said because, after all, I am paying for her expertise and it’s in my best interest.

So I just want to say a big thank you to Jenny.

Without you I would never have done so well.

I would advice everyone whether you need to lose weight or not to see a nutritionist if you want to try look her up on http://www.meadowaesthetics.com/

because it’s the best thing I have ever done.

Day 256

Monday 12th September 2016

Sometimes I get a bit amazed that I am still sticking to my healthy eating plan.

When I first saw Jenny I started on the metabolic balance programme which is healthy eating especially designed for me. People who do it all get different foods that they can choose from. For instance, I couldn’t eat beef to start with. Beef contains acid and I had to lower the acid levels so I didn’t eat beef for a while. But others might have beef on their list.  I can eat it now though.

My food diary is a lot more relaxed than when I first started. There are a few phases I have been through

Phase 1 – a two day detox, which was horrible!

Phase 2 – Two weeks of protein and vegetables with no oil or butter which was a little better but not much. I had the shakes a lot and went through food withdrawals and I didn’t have much energy either.

Phase 3 – The same as phase 2 but I could add oil and butter. This stage was great as I could add a lot more flavour to my food. It took a while though for the shakes to go and to get my energy back but it did return.

I am now on relaxed phase 3 – it’s the same but a few more foods have been added like beef, oats and a few more vegetables.

At the beginning Jenny told me that you can live on relaxed phase 3.  I didn’t believe her. At the time I didn’t even think I would get past phase 1!

But I did and I am still going. I feel like the Duracell bunny – I could go on and on and on.

Eventhough I could keep going it doesn’t stop me on occasions from getting really bored. My food diary now is so much more limiting from what I was eating last year. The only difference is that I was piling on the weight last year and this year it’s doing the opposite.

So the times I get bored I remember how far I have come and not wanting to go back.

Ok so my food is a little more limiting but I am also preferring all the flavours now and I don’t think I could ever go back even if I wanted to.

Day 125

Wednesday 4th May 2016

It was a very busy day today. I was busy doing lots of things and I didn’t seem to get tired once. 4 months ago I wouldn’t have been able to cope and flaked out halfway through the day.

I saw Jenny the nutritionist today again. My results from my blood test had come in but only that morning. So it was a quick overview instead.

I found the results very interesting. I had improved in a lot of things. I have reduced the risk of getting diabetes, osteoporosis & gout considerably. My fatty acids and lipids in the blood are healthier.

I have an under active thyroid. For years they haven’t functioned properly, but now they have been awakened. I am now producing T3 &T4  natural cortisol (stress hormone) I hope that means I will be less stressed and not more. It also means that I have more energy.

My favourite improvement though is the fact that my Uric acid levels in my blood are back in balance. Which means I can finally eat beef.

However there was an issue with my white blood cells. I have had a bad stomach since coming back from holiday. I thought maybe it was because I wasn’t eating as healthily now , even though I am still being healthy. Apparently it looks like I got an infection on holiday and my white blood cells have been exhausted and now they don’t function properly.

There is a solution though and that is for me to keep taking my apple cider vinegar tablets, probiotics (supplements) and prebiotics that means more of those disgusting veggie smoothies every day.

Day 119

Thursday 28th April 2016

12 weeks ago when I first met Jenny the nutritionist. She sent me to get a blood test. It was to test my metabolic balance to see what was going on with my health, and why I couldn’t lose weight.

The results were very enlightening and helpful. Since then I have been trying to get my metabolic rate back in balance, by controlling what I eat.

It has been really hard work but I have done everything she has asked me to do. I have overcome so much in that time – eating food I don’t like, going cold turkey with sugar (which was the worst), not eating for 5 hours between my meals just to name a few.

Today I had another blood test. The last time I was dreading the results but hoped they would bring answers. This time however I am looking forward to them because the results must have improved.

I woke up this morning with a different attitude. It is the end of the 12 week course with Jenny. However it’s the beginning of another 12 weeks.

I am very excited about what it has in store for me, which amazingly has renewed my motivation.

Day 114

Saturday 23rd April 2016

I have always loved having cereal for breakfast. Since the end of January I have been correcting my metabolic balance  which means I haven’t had any cereal. I have really missed it.

When I saw Jenny on Wednesday we went shopping and I bought some cereal I can have.

I haven’t had milk since January either, but she told me that almond milk is a good substitute.

The worst thing for me has been my breakfasts. I don’t know why I just can’t really get used to it

I really thought I wouldn’t like the almond milk, but I have to say I think I liked it better than milk. I don’t think I would like regular milk anymore anyway.

I am really happy with this change as now I can add a bit more variety to my breakfasts.
